Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't every videographer have in his or her arsenal of video editing tools those things that are "nice to have" and those things that are "must have's". For anyone who currently uses multiple cameras, or plans to in the future, we believe we have found a product that falls into the category of "must have's". United Media's Multicam is a software product that allows video editors to easily preview, sync, scrub, cut and edit between multiple camera sources, as if simulating a live camera switch.
In researching this article, we noticed that resellers and integrators were bundling the RT2500 with another product from United Media called Multicam Editor. A by-product from United's On-Line Express NLE systems, Multicam runs on Matrox 2000, 2500 or DigiSuite hardware, and provides terrific editing power. When we tested this combo we found it almost to good to believe.
Here's a software add-on for Adobe Premiere that lets you direct a production after the fact -- it's Multicam by United Media ($599), software that can give you a timeline-based editing environment with up to four cameras synched together. Then, as you work your way through the production, you pick which camera is "on line" at any given time. The software works only with Premiere on Matrox products, including RT2000, RT2500 and all the DigiSuite iterations.

Its not often that you encounter a product thats truly unique but Multicam definitely fits the bill. Its based on the standout feature of United Medias high-end On-line Express a Windows NT- and Digisuite-based real-time editing suite, also called Multicam. On-line Express was aimed at editors who felt most comfortable with live-broadcast production switchers and pre-NLE editing systems such as Lightworks and the new, standalone version of Multicam brings this philosophy to users of Matroxs most popular hardware...

Surgi serves as an audiovisualist for Lockheed Martin, using a United Media On-Line Express nonlinear edit system to cut together an ongoing series of projects documenting the day-to-day activity of all the Lockheed Martin technical operations...
United Media is a seasoned company that's been around for over 20 years. In contrast to many nonlinear editing products that came up through the ranks of computerdom, it's a company that was founded by editors, for editors. It started its life selling linear edit systems using a controller attached to good-old-fashioned tape machines. The appeal of United Media's products is that, because of its experience with this long line of editing...
